The legend of Anthony Van Engelen is almost too massive to put in one paragraph. With a personality as intense and aggressive as his skate style, the man known as AVE burst on the scene in 1999 with amazing video parts in Transworld’s “Feedback” and the Alien Workshop classic, “Photosynthesis.” What transpired next is one of the most impressive 25-year runs in skateboard professional history. With no absence of ups and downs and a few major sponsor switches over the years, Anthony is now firmly planted at Vans and Fucking Awesome, a board brand he started with his best friend Jason Dill in 2013. It turns out that these changes were just what AVE needed in his life, leading to his best years as a pro and culminating with being crowned Thrasher’s Skater of the Year in 2015. Now approaching 15 years of sobriety, Anthony is continually building on the legacy he will leave behind. While still working hard in the streets, he is also providing guidance to the younger generation of skaters that are affiliated with the brands he represents.
